RANT...My 80 year old Mom's doctor won't see her

Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 07:27:11 PM PDT

Please bear with me as I rant.  I am so damned angry that I could spit.  My Mom is amazing, some of you have met her...she rocks.

She is also 80.  She pays alot of money each month for supplemental insurance because our healthcare SUCKS.

So she calls her doctor's office today and tells the 'scheduler' that she needs to get into the doctor today because she's having congestion, coughing alot and having some breathing issues. In November 2006, this happened and she developed pnuemonia and was putt in the hospital.  Follow me here folks.

[UPDATE]Mr. Bush...PLEASE DO NOT COME TO CALIFORNIA

Wed Oct 24, 2007 at 08:22:01 AM PDT

Mr. Bush,

Sorry this will be short, but you see we are literally on fire here in San Diego County and I have to help people and horses, so haven't much time to write currently.

But this is a letter requesting you STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY STATE.

Your visit will only mean that wherever you choose to have your photo-op making it look like you care, will be shutdown so people/animals cannot continue to receive care....remember when you and Laura kept showing up in Louisiana after Katrina...same thing.

BARBARA's UPDATE - 3:45 a.m. - Tuesday

Sun Oct 21, 2007 at 09:36:20 PM PDT

It is 3:30 a.m. roughly.  Another day in this infero'd state.  We are being told there are resources to fight this coming from OTHER STATES.

I fell into bed with Winston (my Jack Russell) after midnight.  I stayed at the barns in Del Mar until after 11.  Hearing 150,000 acres are burned from the Witch fire alone.  It is volitale.  Hearing Encinitas is in danger and trying to get caught up with evacuations.  Angela is down in Del Mar with the horses, I will go down in a bit and 'spell' her.  Horses are alright and no fire in site down there currently.

Tirawa (my malamute/wolf) slept outside for some odd reason, but he's amazing....remember he was in Louisiana helping me 2 years ago and a special companion.

My throat/eyes/lungs are trashed.  I'm going to try to put another diary up later if things 'settle' down and I stay at home....unlikely I will stay home given animals need help, as do people.  Everyone who has been sending well wishes through KOS, as well as links, updates and been volunteering...thank you, thank you...you are all amazing.  Barbara

Conyers - Right? Nope...

Tue Jul 24, 2007 at 05:23:36 AM PDT

I'm tired on how everyone thinks the 'wait and see' and 'follow the masses' is what our lawmakers that we supposedly elect, should do.

NOTHING short of IMPEACHMENT is going to appeal to me, NOTHING short of ending this war in Iraq is going to appease me.

I was for IMPEACHMENT YEARS AGO before it was 'fashionable' here...now it's all the rage to write diaries about it...4 years ago it wasn't cool.

Running for Blood - IN MEMORY OF BETTI

Sun Jul 15, 2007 at 06:58:34 PM PDT

This is dedicated to my sister Betti Schulz, who lost her life to AML  on September 22, 2006.http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Betti was a woman who was strong, incredibly intelligent and a woman who chose to live a simple life with few materialistic items....she was my older sister....I LOVE her and there has not been a day in the past 10 months that I have not cried over having lost her.

UPDATE-THE POWER OF ONE & MARCH 19th VIGILS -Pls Rec

Sat Mar 17, 2007 at 07:08:48 PM PDT

Dear All,

I've not written a diary since my sister (Betti) was so sick and ultimately passed away September 22, 2006, I still find it difficult to get involved in life.

So much is happening in this Community called 'DailyKos', I've read amazing diaries in the past six or seven months, feel I've gained new friends and shed so many tears over the pain and suffering some of us have had to face...but then I tell myself that I am a strong and healthy woman, that the POWER OF ONE is TRUE POWER and my sister would WANT me to get back into life, preferably DIVE back into it.

Well, Betti, I don't think I'm diving into it, but I'm going to get back involved in that which I believe in and I WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Follow me please...

Betti...waiting to die

Tue Sep 12, 2006 at 09:54:30 AM PDT

I love the lyrics of Seasons of Life and it is the song I listen to over and over while I go through the final journey with my sister:

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights
In cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.

In five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?

Betti - Sun Update 2 (7 a.m)-PRAYERS NEEDED

Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 08:55:22 AM PDT

What do you do when you begin your Saturday like most others with heading to ride my horse and work on some horses and you receive a call from your niece saying that her mother (my sister-Betti) is in NICU bleeding in her brain.

Many of you know me from my Katrina diaries last year and my comments about Betti having been diagnosed with AML (an acute luekemia that is pretty deadly) due as a result of a 1992 train derailment in Superior, Wisconsin that dumped TWENTY EIGHT THOUSAND TONS OF BENZENE...this happened a mile from her farm.

TAKING Back My Neighborhood...could cost my life...fuck it.

Sat Jun 24, 2006 at 10:53:46 PM PDT

It's me...Barbara, the one that does crazy things like try to save the world kind of crazy.  The one who had to go to Louisiana after Katrina cuz I KNEW things were being lied about and I KNEW I had to do SOMETHING.

I'm just a regular one woman 'show' so to speak [snark]...nothing fancy, don't try to get recognition.  I have a strong concept of right and wrong.  I believe if people chose to be parents, they need to BE parents.

UPDATE - TIRAWA (By Request)

Mon May 29, 2006 at 08:10:47 AM PDT

UPDATE: The outpouring of concern for this beautiful creature always amazes me. He has touched literally hundreds, if not thousands of lives in his 8 years on this planet.

I know it is asking alot...but how about 'recommends' for Tirawa...after all he did in Louisiana, I think HE deserves it...THANK YOU. Tirawa has always been a healing soul and has taught me so much about healing, patience and life since he's been in my life.  His side-kick, Winston has been beside himself with concern (Winston is the Jack Russell terrierist) and was so excited that Tirawa was ready for a walk this a.m.!

UPDATE - TIRAWA (by request)

Sun May 28, 2006 at 01:16:16 PM PDT

UPDATE: The outpouring of concern for this beautiful creature always amazes me. He has touched literally hundreds, if not thousands of lives in his 8 years on this planet. SUNDAY - 8 a.m. PST: T rested well through the night. I made a bed for him outside and did two hour checks on him through the night. At 5 a.m. I gave him more doxycyline and gave him a massage and worked on his hind legs...he seemed comfortable with them being moved. At 6 a.m., I put a towel under his belly (he weighs 130 and so do I) and lifted him up and insisted that he take some steps. He did, then he laid down unsure how it felt. He did not cry as he did for hours yesterday. He drank water and ate some cheese and peanut butter with his meds.

[Updated]RAGE, ANGER and Suicidal thoughts

Sat Mar 18, 2006 at 07:08:48 PM PDT

How angry can someone get before they just throw their hands up and say 'to hell with it'...

How much more can our wonderful country take, before she has been raped and pilaged beyond repair....

IN MEMORY OF THE TEN FALLEN MARINES...

Sun Dec 04, 2005 at 02:09:48 AM PDT

IN HONOR OF THE 10 FALLEN MARINES (please consider recommending in their honor...)

When I heard that we lost 10 Marines in one incident the other morning, I felt paralized.  The Corps has been much like a shadow family to me for something like 18 years and each time I hear a Marine has fallen or been injured...well, my heart jumps and then becomes so incredibly heavy.

The anger I felt the following day when it was reported that Mr. Bush KNEW about the deaths and NEVER mentioned it because his own self-importance once again was more important made me see red.

It amazes me how he claims he is a man of God and yet he is not God fearing and he believes he can PLAY GOD.

A THANKSGIVING WISH TO ALL

Tue Nov 22, 2005 at 06:32:42 PM PDT

What a difficult year this has been for America and the World.

As I reflect upon my own personal trials and tribulations that I've struggled with, I am incredibly thankful for all that I have, even when it seems I have so little.

"RED" is Dying - The Horses of Camp Pendleton

Sun Oct 23, 2005 at 08:45:49 PM PDT

I named him 'RED', not overly original for a red horse to be named "Red", but his time on earth is coming to an end soon and I am helpless to do anything.

Red lives on Camp Pendleton. The story of the horses on Camp Pendleton is one that NEEDS to be told and one that FEW know anything about.
